I asked the children what their favourite season is and why.
Then we looked at the distance between New Zealand and Spain, and we compared the seasons in New Zealand to Spain, it is VERY far away and all the seasons are the OPPOSITE!
Look at the map:
In New Zealand it isSummer in December, January and February
In New Zealand it is Autumn in March, April and May
In New Zealand it is Winter in June, July and August
In New Zealand it isSpring in September, October, November
So as you can see it is all the opposite!
We had a listen to a great song about the seasons, we talked about the "Fall" which is the same as Autumn.
In America they say "Fall" because what falls in Autumn? The leaves from the trees!
Here is the song:
On 25 December it is CHRISTMAS, and here in Spain it is WINTER.
But in New Zealand it is SUMMER!
So on Christmas day, we go to the beach and are outside in the sun.
Santa gets hot when he comes to New Zealand so sometimes he goes to the beach:
Well its nearly the end of November, my how time flies!
We have been looking at Thanksgiving in the classrooms.
Although it is not celebrated in my country it is a big festival in America and I have been telling the children a short and simplified history of Thanksgiving:
The Pilgrims left Europe in 1620 on a ship called the Mayflower
It took a long time - 2 months before they arried in America.
When they arrived in America it was cold, and they had not food... Many Pilgrims died.
But they made friends with the Indians,
who showed them how to plant food - like corn and pumpkins and to hunt the turkey.
The Pilgrims wanted to say thank you to their new friends and for the food so they had a big dinner altogether and this is Thanksigiving.
Hi Everyone! After meeting my family I spoke to the children (reviewing the house vocabulary) and showed them my home in New Zealand, we talked about the differences to houses in Spain. Have a look:
